Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and Barrett?s oesophagus, oesophageal motility disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease and gastrointestinal cancers




Dr Woodland trained at University College London Medical School. During his medical training at prestigious London hospitals he undertook a research into gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and was awarded his PhD for this work in 2010. He works as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Senior Lecturer at the Royal London Hospital.

In his practice he diagnoses and treats a broad range of gastrointestinal disease including gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, swallowing disorders, peptic ulcer, irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease. He has an interest in endoscopic diagnosis and therapy, and is an accredited colonoscopist on the National Bowel Cancer Screening programme.

He continues to have an active research portfolio at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, with a particular focus on research into gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and swallowing disorders. He speaks at international meetings on these subjects and has published several important research papers.

He serves on the British Society of Gastroenterology Neurogastroenterology Committee, is a member of the editorial board for the Neurogastroenterology and Motility Journal, and peer reviews research proposals for the Bowel and Cancer Research Grants committee and the National Institute of Health Research.
