Biography

Dr Sweis acquired his Bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1994 and his medical qualification from University of Edinburgh in 1999. He trained in gastroenterology at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, Kings College Hospital and South East Thames, and completed his PhD from Kings College London in 2012. He was appointed at UCLH in March 2014 as a Consultant in Upper GI Medicine. He is the Upper GI Physiology Lead at UCLH and an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at UCL.

Dr Sweis' research focused on advancing the methodology and utility of the technology used to investigate reflux and swallowing disorders, specifically catheter and wireless pH-monitoring (Bravo) as well as High Resolution Manometry. He continues to publish and collaborate with fellow experts and oesophageal units in the UK and abroad. Rami is an active member of the international High Resolution Manometry Working Group, which is responsible for classifying oesophageal disorders including the Chicago Classification. He is also a member of the NGM Committee of the BSG and the Clinical Representative for AGIP.

Dr Sweis is member of the Upper GI Endoscopy team at UCH. He has a particular interest in investigating and managing complex benign disorders (including POEM for Achalasia) as well as Barrett's and early cancer (including RFA, EMR, stent and laser).
