Biography

'Less likely to operate, unlike other surgeons in the area' GP testimony.

Mr Sivaraman maximises non-surgical options with pain management plans, which consider physical, social, and psychological lifestyle factors. He is a strong believer in active conservative management and he is well known for educating and assisting his patients in the decision making process when considering treatment options.

He specialises in spinal surgery for deformity, inflammatory spinal pathologies (ie rheumatoid spine and ankylosing spondylitis), degenerative conditions of the neck and lower back, spinal tumours, infections such as spinal tuberculosis. He was actively involved in the Spinal Tuberculosis Unit at The Royal London Hospital, one of a very few units in the UK seeing a high volume of patients.

Most episodes of lower back pain can be treated non-surgically. Conservative treatment is not the first option if the patient is experiencing bowel or bladder control loss or progressive weakness in legs. These symptoms require urgent action.

A member of the British Association for Spine Surgeons, he performs over 500 surgical procedures and spinal injections per year as a full-time spinal surgeon. He is fellowship trained consultant orthopaedic spine surgeon with excellent training, having various overseas visiting fellowships.

His higher surgical training in trauma and orthopaedics was completed through the prestigious Percival Pott training programme at St Bartholomew's and The Royal London Hospital. He completed his spinal fellowship training at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital both under orthopaedic and neuro-spinal surgeons.

Mr Sivaraman enjoys sharing his knowledge by presenting GP lectures and physical therapist lectures, which can be arranged through the marketing team. He has published and presented papers on spinal surgery at international conferences and is the author of a spinal chapter in a medical textbook. He also actively participated in the training of medical students and orthopaedic specialist trainees at St Bartholomew's Hospital and at The Royal London Hospital.
