Biography

NHS Practice: Consultant Orthopaedic and lead Shoulder Surgeon, Northwick Park and Central Middlesex Hospitals. CEA (local Clinical Excellence award).

Mr Matthew Sala is a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon, specialising in the treatment of Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist and Hand conditions; and Knee injuries; including Joint, Muscle and Tendon pathology, complex fractures, sport and soft tissue injuries.

Qualified from the University of Liverpool Medical School. Completed Specialist training on the North Thames rotation including University College Hospital, St Mary's Paddington, Hammersmith and Charing Cross Hospitals.

Awarded FRCS (Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons) then FRCS(Orth) in 1997; and CCST in1999.
Fellowship trained at the University of Toronto, Canada; based at St Michael's Hospital; with additional Visiting Surgeon attachments to the Hand Unit, London, Ontario; Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston; and Hospital for Special Surgery, New York City.

Appointed Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon at Northwick Park and Central Middlesex Hospitals (NW London University Healthcare NHS Trust) in 2000; and Clinical Lead for Shoulder Surgery, managing a tertiary referral service for complex shoulder problems. Appointed Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College School of Medicine in 2001.

Mr Sala has extensive experience in shoulder arthroscopic surgery, performing over 90% of procedures in this way, including Acromio-Clavicular ligament reconstruction; he pioneered collagen scaffold and inflatable spacer implants in rotator cuff repair, for which he is part of a national collaborative study.

He is actively engaged in the Exactec Shoulder Replacement Steering Group, also providing advanced surgeon training.

Working with a team of highly experienced Anaesthetists and Specialised Physiotherapists in Central and NW London.
