Shock Wave Lithotripsy for urinary stones (ESWL)
ESWL® is used by most urologists as the first line treatment for renal and ureteric stones. A simple, non-invasive procedure performed mostly on an outpatient basis that continues to be highly cost effective and patient friendly.
The variability of outcome dependant of operator/machine combination remains an area of consistent debate. Few would argue though, that an accomplished specialist radiographer in combination with effective and patient friendly technology is likely to achieve the best and most consistent outcomes. This applies to ESWL® and ESWT.
The team has performed thousands of these treatments in the UK, and are probably the most experienced operators in the country.
Shock Wave Therapy for fracture Non Union (ESWT)
Although widely practised, studied and documented on the continent, ESWT has yet to be widely embraced by UK clinicians. The treatment is non invasive and normally undertaken with the aid of mild analgesia / sedation.
Our team has performed most of the few hundred UK treatments to date.
Shock Wave Therapy for Resistant Tendinopathies (ESWT)
Tennis and Golfer's elbow, Plantar fasciitis (Heel spur), calcific tendonitis in the shoulder and Achilles tendonitis are the primary applications that benefit from ESWT.
Long established and well documented on the continent, ESWT is an effective non-invasive solution to tendonitis that has proved resistant to conservative therapies (Steroid injection etc).
