Robotic Surgery

The da Vinci© Surgical System at The Princess Grace Hospital is the first totally intuitive laparoscopic surgical robot in existence. The computer-enhanced system, which mimics the surgeon’s hand and wrist movements, enables the surgeon to perform minimally invasive work through tiny entry incisions as small as one centimetre.

It can be used to perform many surgical procedures, including general laparoscopic surgery, thoracoscopic (chest) surgery, laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and thoracoscopically assisted cardiotomy procedures, and is most commonly used to remove parts of the prostate to treat prostate cancer. Surgery normally takes 2-3 hours.

When you have robotic surgery at The Princess Grace Hospital, you will benefit from:

  • The minimally invasive procedure, offering less pain, discomfort, blood loss and scarring, a shorter hospital stay and a quicker return to normal activities
  • Greater accuracy: the da Vinci© Surgical System is beneficial for tricky and delicate areas where there are a lot of nerves and vessels to be avoided, such as the prostate.
  • Your procedure will be performed by an experienced surgeon using state-of-the-art equipment
