Are there any extra precautions patients should take?
There is a small risk that the patient will pass a seed in the urine for one or two days immediately following implantation. Because of this there are some precautions that will be taken whilst the patient is in hospital, and we ask for their co-operation with these minor restrictions:
- The patient room's toilet and shower facilities will be isolated once they have had their implant. They may, of course, be used up to the time of your implant.
- Patients will be provided with a urinal bottle - such that any loose seed is collected.
- Patients are asked not to use any other toilet or shower in the hospital.
- Patients are asked to stay in their room until they have changed into their own clothes. Once they have changed into their own clothes, they may circulate around the hospital as they wish (as long as they do not use any of the toilets or showers).
- Visiting is unrestricted while the patient is in hospital, but please observe the guidelines in the paragraphs that follow.
