What will I notice during the first few days at home?
You might notice a trace of blood in your urine for several days. This is quite normal so do not be alarmed. However, if the bleeding becomes severe or there are blood clots please telephone us immediately or contact your GP or doctor. Drinking plenty of water helps prevent blood clots and flushes the bladder.
Antibiotics are provided to prevent infection and you should complete the course. If you develop an allergic reaction, such as a skin rash, you should contact your doctor or the ward at the Princess Grace Hospital. You will also be prescribed with alpha-blocker medication such as Alfuzosin (Xatral) or Tamsulosin (Flomax), which relaxes the smooth muscle of the prostate, reducing the pressure on the urethra (water pipe) and thus relieving urinary symptoms
